LEE WARES
CHAIR
We moved to Highampton in early 2021 attracted by the quiet rural setting; having moved from Brighton.
We were quickly welcomed into the village and made some very good friends generally and within the farming community. We love the community spirit and the willingness of everybody to help each other out.
It was the overwhelming kindness we received that compelled us to support activities in the village as much as we can. For my part, I spent 6 years as an elected councillor on Brighton and Hove City Council and felt those skills learnt could benefit the village if I helped on the parish council. To that end, I was co-opted onto the council in January and encouraged to assume the role of Chair.
I am very conscious of the dread some have that outsiders might want to change the village and the general order that exists. For me, the opposite exists. As Chair of the parish council, I want to preserve the beautiful rural environment we have and help those that come to the village to better understand the way of life around us and to be able to settle and integrate.
That said, I want to try and make things better. That doesn’t mean to change things but more to enhance how things are. Cleaner roads and lanes, better ecology, make the village look prettier and colourful, make the roads within the village safer and to allow everybody working, retiring, playing, relaxing and visiting to just be able to get on with it and enjoy being here.

I helped the neighbourhood plan committee to from its joint local plan with West Devon which is now being used in our planning process. RICHARD DIMMOCK
PARISH COUNCILLOR
I’m cllr Richard Dimmock and I live in Burdon Lane with my wife and son.
My wife and I moved to Highampton from Surrey in 2007 looking for a quieter, more rural life and a home in a friendly village with a traditional sense of community.
I am a qualified, professional Horticulturist and have worked in the gardening sector for well over 40 years. Currently I run a garden consultancy business from our home.
I joined the parish council a number of years ago as I wanted to take an active part in the decisions that come under the councils brief, and with a desire to make our parish the best place possible for all of us to live and work in.
Apart from being on the parish council, I continue to have a active role on the committee of the PTFA of the village school, I also serve on the committee of Hatherleigh youth football club and for the past two seasons I have been a coach at the club. I am looking forward to a successful upcoming season with the U13s.
Away from work I enjoy the outdoor lifestyle, hiking, swimming, mountain biking, surfing, paddle boarding and fishing being but a few of my interests.
GEORGE BURGESS
PARISH COUNCILLOR
I have served the Parish Council for a number of years including holding office as Chair, until recently passing on the mantle. I hope to continue to serve the community in whatever capacity is required utilising my skills to benefit us all.
ALMA KNIGHT
PARISH COUNCILLOR
Inspired by my Mum, Mary, I am keen to serve the people of Highampton and help them resolve any difficulties that may arise from living in this wonderful rural area.
I love living and working here and enjoy being a member of some of the local clubs. You may well know me from the work I do to support HighFest and Hatherleigh Carnival and other societies locally.
ROB REYNOLDS
PARISH COUNCILLOR
I am relatively new to Highampton and really enjoy living here. My children have all attended the local primary school and will in turn all go onto the senior school.
I particularly enjoy getting involved in practical matters that enhance the life of our community, with interests in health & safety – especially making our roads safer for us all. One of my commitments is to helping out with HighFest.

After retiring, and being fairly busy in my community and with family & friends, I never expected to be taking on the role of a parish clerk, however, I do enjoy learning new skills and finding solutions to problems.
I have been pleased to assist the Highampton Parish Council to evolve and found that there are so many lovely helpful people in the world. I am delighted that Highampton now has this super new website that should help and inform us all in the coming years.
